C.Maples
Teacher, writer, philosopher
Academics
I am a Ph.D. candidate in philosophy at Baylor University, working remotely from the Twin Cities, MN. In December 2022, I successfully defended my prospectus. I am currently writing a dissertation on personal identity and bioethics. My interests include bioethics, personhood, personal identity, ancient philosophy, German idealism, metaphysics, and ethics broadly. My area of specialization is bioethics, and my areas of competency are in ethics & history of philosophy, particularly ancient.
In 2015, I graduated valedictorian from St. Edward’s University (Austin, TX), where I majored in philosophy with a minor in German. I was awarded a Fulbright and DAAD scholarship, and following graduation, I taught English at a Gymnasium (German equivalent of high school) in Münster, Germany, as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant.
See my CV for more information, including publications and classes taught. I am always updating my CV, so please contact me for the most recent version.
Personal life
In my free time (ha!), I enjoy traveling and hanging out with my husband, Mason. I am – and always have been – an avid bookworm, and I make a point to read non-philosophical works of fiction and history books. My favorite authors include J.R.R. Tolkien, Terry Pratchett, Stephen King, and Grady Hendrix, and I’ve recently been on a horror & mystery novel kick. If you have any book recommendations, send them my way! I also enjoy craft beer, coffee, hiking, board games, and axe throwing – though I don’t profess to be particularly good at throwing axes. I hit the target. Most of the time.
